Associate Accountant (AP Specialist)

Through its wholly owned insurance carrier, Upland Specialty Insurance Company, the company markets, underwrites and services specialty insurance products in select markets to include excess transportation, construction casualty, excess casualty, primary general liability, excess public entity, professional liability errors and omissions as well as excess cyber liability.

As an Excess and Surplus (E&S) carrier, we face unique and interesting problems every day. We are seeking an Associate Accountant to join our Finance department.

This position will be responsible for various tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivables, expense report processing, journal entries, reconciliation, research, and month-end close.  While this position is remote, candidates located in the Dallas Fort-Worth area are strongly preferred.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Process the Company’s accounts payable, including:
    • Maintain vendor information and collect W-9 forms
    • Prepare and maintain 1099 vendor filings on an annual basis
    • Process invoices from receipt through payment
    • Coordinate and post wire transfer payments, check runs and ACH payments
    • Research and resolve discrepancies or other payment issues with vendors
    • Maintain accurate records for all accounts payable transactions and support audit processes as needed
    • Familiar with the Escheatment process.
  • Record and pay expense report activity in compliance with company policy
  • Prepare and Reconcile Premium Cash Receipts
  • Prepare and record various cash deposits including Premium Receipts.
  • This position will interact and collaborate with other departments regularly

Other Essential Duties include but not limited:

  • Prepare journal entries for daily and monthly financial transactions to the general ledger
  • Reconcile and prepare detailed reconciliations of Company’s balance sheet accounts
  • Maintain procedures for assigned tasks and update periodically as controls are implemented and contribute to process improvements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and account payables principles
  • Working knowledge of a major general ledger system
  • Exceptional organization skills with attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to work independently, self directed and takes initiative with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred but not required
  • Two years of accounting experience including full-cycle AP or equivalent combination of education and experience

Disclosures:

Pay Estimate: $45,000 - $65,000/year

Other compensation: annual incentive program
