Senior Accountant

DALLAS, TX

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a specialty insurance company built on experience.  This position will be responsible for a variety of complex accounting practices to include processing accounts payable, journal entries, reconciliation, research and month-end close.  This position will be a contributor to the department with the ability to handle a variety of accounting responsibilities.

Key Areas of Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and manage month-end close process for insurance, including journal entries, reconciliations, analytics, U.S. GAAP and statutory insurance reporting
  • Assist with the year-end financial reporting process for Upland Specialty Insurance Company including the annual STAT report, audited GAAP financial statements and other financial reports
  • Works extensively with internal/external auditors and insurance examiners to provide deliverables related to Financial Accounting

Other Essential Duties include but not limited: 

  • Prepare journal entries for daily and monthly financial transactions to the general ledger
  • Reconcile and prepare detailed reconciliations of Company’s balance sheet accounts
  • Monthly reconciliation of the policy administration system to the general ledger
  • Calculate monthly accruals, amortization of prepaids and supporting schedules
  • Prepare and reconcile custody and operating bank accounts
  • Review invoices for accuracy and process Accounts Payable
  • Book and maintain fixed assets as required
  • Assist with the preparation, recording, and reporting of various reinsurance contracts
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual statutory statements including footnotes and supporting documents
  • Assist with monthly financials including preparation of financial reporting package
  • Assist and provide documents with financial audits and regulatory exams
  • Maintain procedures for assigned task and update periodically as controls are implemented
  • Year end 1099 reporting and all related tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 1 – 2 years of related work and experience a plus
  • Property and casualty insurance industry preferred
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office and accounting software packages
