Through its wholly owned insurance carrier, Upland Specialty Insurance Company, the company markets, underwrites and services specialty insurance products in select markets to include excess transportation, construction casualty, excess casualty, primary general liability, excess public entity, professional liability errors and omissions as well as excess cyber liability.

As an Excess and Surplus (E&S) carrier, we face unique and interesting problems every day. We are seeking a Data Operations Manager to join our Data Team.

Primary Function:
Upland Capital Group is hiring a Data Operations Manager to enhance the efficiency and scalability of our Data team. This individual contributor role is ideal for someone who excels in project management, driving execution, and cross-functional collaboration.

Your experience includes working closely with data teams and familiarity with tools such as SQL, Power BI, dbt, or Snowflake.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional data workstreams end-to-end including scoping, planning, tracking, and driving execution
  • Maintain business rhythm across the team: tracking work, clearing blockers, supporting project charters, and keeping execution on track
  • Build and maintain project tracking systems, status dashboards, and team documentation
  • Write or co-develop clear business requirements and process flows for data systems and operational processes
  • Manage change across stakeholders during rollouts, migrations, and process updates
  • Identify and drive improvements in how we plan, prioritize, and deliver data work
  • Remove blockers and connect dots across engineering, analytics, and business teams
  • Support SOX and compliance processes as needed, including documentation, audit support, and control tracking
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Experience, Education, Special Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred with 5+ years of experience in data operations, business operations, or project/program manager; or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • P&C insurance experience highly preferred
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to run multiple workstreams concurrently
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, structured in your thinking, and decisive in your execution
  • Excellent communicator - clear, concise, and able to tailor to technical and business audiences
  • Experience collaborating with data teams and familiarity with tools like SQL, Power BI, dbt, or Snowflake
  • Familiar with Agile or Kanban-based delivery models. Please note - this is not a scrum master role
  • Insurance or regulated industry experience a plus
  • Experience with SOX, data governance, or compliance-related documentation preferred but not required

 Disclosures:

Pay Estimate: $95,000 - $140,000/year

Other compensation: annual incentive program
