Senior Actuarial Analyst (Remote)

At our Risk and Analytics (R&A) team, we focus on Actuarial, Data Science, Data and Model Engineering, and Enterprise Risk Management functions. Our Actuarial and Data Science model environment and architecture is containerized, and we are cloud based, running on Azure. Our vision is to build highly automated and efficient processes to deliver actuarial insights into underwriting and claims handling processes. We look to create value by problem solving and a close collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, not limited by a ‘one size fits all’ mindset. 

As an Excess and Surplus (E&S) carrier, we face unique and interesting problems every day. We are looking for an aspiring Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our R&A team. This role will report to the VP, Actuarial.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary contact and communicator between product underwriters and the R&A team
  • Lead the development, deployment, interpretation and communication of standard actuarial products and services including rate adequacy studies, rate monitoring, trend analysis, loss rating for larger accounts, rating plan development, rater maintenance and coverage development incorporating advanced analytics, data science and economic experts as appropriate
  • Support with relevant product knowledge reserving, portfolio economics, economic capital modelling, business plan development, reinsurance placement and ad hoc data/analysis requests
  • Lead the identification, development and communication of innovative data and data science products targeted to assist underwriters in the acquisition, risk selection, pricing and renewal of individual policies
  • Evaluate product opportunities and prepare analysis and conclusions for presentation to senior management

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Three to five years of P&C Commercial Lines experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 actuarial exams passed
  • Ability to communicate highly complex technical solutions or concepts to underwriters, claims adjusters, finance and management
  • Demonstrated ability (academic and/or professional) to understand and apply advanced analytics
  • Advanced knowledge with Excel and VBA
  • Working knowledge in SQL 
  • Working knowledge with either R or Python
  • Working experience preferably with Excess & Surplus lines
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies, processes and data management solutions preferred
  • Advanced degree in STEM preferred
